This showcase event will include readings of new work from some of the most exciting writers in our region.
Andrew Michael Hurley’s first novel, The Loney, won the Costa Best First Novel Award and Book of the Year at the British Book Industry Awards in 2016, and is in development as a feature film. He’ll read from his new novel, Devil’s Day.
Jude Brown’s work has been shortlisted for the Bridport and Raymond Carver Short Story Prizes and His Dark Sun was long-listed for the Mslexia Novel Competition. She is the recipient of a Northern Writers’ Award.
John Challis’s poems have appeared on BBC Radio 4, as well as in journals and anthologies including The North, The Rialto and Land of Three Rivers (Bloodaxe). John will read from The Black Cab, his first pamphlet of poems.
The Read Regional campaign aims to connect local authors from the north of England to local readers via libraries, bookshops and festivals. Each year, New Writing North chooses a selection of the best books to promote via an open submission process. Read Regional is produced by NWN in partnership with 23 local authorities in the North East, North West and Yorkshire.
